NucleoBond^® AX is an anion exchanger developed for routine separation of different classes of nucleic acids and is covered by several patents. The outstanding purity of original materials used is guaranteed. The purity of materials is an important prerequisite for the superior biological activity of the purified nucleic acids and renders high mass recoveries possible by minimizing nonspecific adsorption effects. The extraordinary high charge density on its hydrophilic, macroporous surface results in a salt concentration range for binding and elution of nucleic acids that is much larger than can be achieved with conventional anion exchangers.

The anion exchanger that is used with NucleoBond^® AX material is MAE (methylaminoethanol), whereas DEAE (diethylaminoethyl) is the functional binding group of a competitive anion-exchanger material. Efficient binding of the negatively charged nucleic acid backbone depends on the functional group as well as general affinity of the anion-exchanger material to the respective nucleic acid. The chemical group MAE is less bulky and more hydrophilic than DEAE. Therefore, the binding of nucleic acids, especially of large constructs, to the NucleoBond^® AX material, is most efficient.

All NucleoBond^® AX types are resistant to organic solvents like alcohol, chloroform, and phenol. They are free of RNase and DNase. NucleoBond^® AX columns are easy to handle. Solutions can be poured directly into columns. Also, solutions flow through the exchanger bed by gravity and the columns do not run dry. Thus, it is possible to purify multiple samples simultaneously or to do other work between the steps of the procedure. Using the included plastic washer, all columns can be placed directly in a plastic tube.
